SADC NGOs joins in condemning violence

Southern African development community (SADC) Non governmental organizations has observed that ambitious campaign promises have heightened the run -up to next Tuesday’s presidential election.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, SADC Council of NGO’s President Lewis Mwape says various political parties have been making seemingly unrealistic promises to the electorates.

Mr. Mwape says this will, without doubt, create some expectation crisis with citizens if not fulfilled.

Mr. Mwape notes that this observation is made against the back drop of the current economic and budgetary framework as well as the time frame within which the promises are to be delivered.

He has also stated that the council is concerned with the performance of the media in covering the elections which he says has been below par.

He stresses that clear biases has been observed in both public and private media bringing into question objectivity and credibility of media ethics.

The council of NGO’s has since appealed to Zambians to continue restraining themselves from the levels of violence that are being witnessed in the country.
