Saunders advises chiefs over endorsements

Political Activist Dante Saunders has advised traditional leaders across the country to desist from the practice of openly endorsing their preferred candidates during elections to avoid dividing their subjects.

Mr. Saunders says it is disappointing to see a number of traditional leaders openly endorsing their preferred presidential candidates ahead of next week’s presidential by-election.

Mr. Saunders has told QFM News in an interview that traditional leaders are supposed to guide their subjects and not mislead them by openly endorsing their preferred candidates.

He adds that the Chiefs Act does not allow traditional leaders to take sides in times of campaigns but are supposed to be nonpartisans.

Mr. Saunders adds that it is for this reason that traditional leaders should desist from endorsing any candidate during the 2016 general elections and allow their subjects to make independent decisions.
