PROTUZ condemns harassing of teachers on suspicion that they are Satanists

The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) is disturbed that some of their members in Nyimba District in Eastern Province have gone for years without being confirmed in their respective appointments, while a few teachers are irregularly being considered.

And the union has condemned the growing trend in Lusaka Province where a number of teachers have been grossly mistreated and harassed by the communities on the pretext that they are practicing Satanism.

In a statement made available to QFM News, PROTUZ Director for Public Relations Chisanga Mumba says the union has received disturbing revelations that some district education officials in Nyimba have condoned elements of corruption and unprofessionalism in the execution of their duties.

Mr. Mumba says the move has de-motivated most of the members whose efforts are being defeated by such acts.

And Mr Mumba says it is sad that some teachers are being harassed on the pretext that they are practice Satanism with the recent case in Kafue district.

He says this is causing great fear and terror among teachers serving in such localities.
