No law requires Lungu to resign – Mwanajiti

Human Rights Defender and Governance Expert Ngande Mwanajiti says there is no law in Zambia which requires Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu to resign his ministerial portfolios because he is a presidential candidate.

Mr Mwanajiti says Mr Lungu has not broken or offended any Zambian law by not relinquishing his ministerial positions.

He adds that Mr Lungu is Minister of Justice and Defence Minister is not using government resources to campaign.

Mr Mwanajiti states that the Zambian constitution, in the Bill of Rights forbids any form of discrimination, and that all those that respect the rule of law should remain steadfast and commit to fairness, justice and equity.

He further states that law must remain the guiding compass at all times.
