Grand Coalition denies supporting UPND

The Grand Coalition championing the speedy enactment of the new constitution says it is not supporting the opposition UPND as perceived by some NGOs.

Grand Coalition Spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi says the coalition is not interested in supporting any presidential candidate but what they are doing is to work closely with political parties that are showing commitment to deliver a new constitution.CHIPENZI FODEP

Mr. Chipenzi says the coalition n will support all political parties that have signed the social contract because they want to see a new constitution enacted.

He says most of the people in Zambia know very well that the country needs a new constitution and that they will not stop pushing for the new constitution until it is given to the people.

Mr. Chipenzi, who is also Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director, says the coalition does not care whether they are called names simply because they are championing for a new constitution.

He says what they want to see is a people driven constitution delivered before the 2016 General Elections.

Meanwhile Evangelical Youth Alliance International Executive Director Moses Lungu says the move taken by the Grand Coalition is tantamount to blackmail.

Reverend Lungu says the Grand Coalition is a voluntary organization which should not hold individuals to ransom for their own good.

He is of the view that signing a social contract is not a guarantee that those that signed will deliver the new constitution.
