Home Affairs Deputy Minister Steven Kampyongo has assured the nation that the Zambia Police Service will provide the necessary security during the January 20th polls despite witnessing cases of violence during campaigns.

Mr. Kampyongo has told QFM News by telephone that the people should not be shaken that cases of violence are reported and that there maybe cases of violence during the presidential by-election saying the police will be there to maintain peace and order.

He says the recent violence cases in Shiwang’andu and Mongu Districts is a sad development but that the police are doing their level best to investigate the cases.

He adds that there is no need for the people to start panicking that the presidential by-election will be marred with violence saying the police will be on the ground to maintain peace and order.

Mr. Kampyongo has also urged the opposition to stop the unnecessary attacks on the ruling party saying it is a violent party.
