ZCF appeals for increased investment in irrigation farming

The Zambia Cooperatives Federation (ZCF) has appealed to the incoming government to invest more funds in irrigation farming.

ZCF Executive Director James Chirwa says more investment in irrigation farming will help to counter the effects of partial drought some parts of the country usually experience.

Mr. Chirwa notes that investing more in the implementation of irrigation farming will also help strengthen the agricultural policy on irrigation farming.

He adds that agriculture plays an important role in the eradication of poverty thus the next government should give it the attention it deserves.

Mr. Chirwa has also called for the need for the government to deliver the farming inputs in time.

He further states that he is hopeful that the next government has learnt from the past governments on the late delivery of farming inputs to the farmers and will not do the same but will ensure that the inputs are delivered on time.

Mr. Chirwa adds that the delay in paying farmers should not be repeated in the future.
