Prof Saasa voices concern over prevailing poltical atmosphere

Economist Oliver Saasa says the prevailing political atmosphere in the country which appears to indicate that Zambia is at war against itself is a risk to political stability.

Professor Saasa says there is a need to ensure that whoever emerges as President is not shrouded in a warlike atmosphere if the country’s political stability is to be sustained after the January 20th presidential election.

In an interview with Qfm NeProf Saasaws, Professor Saasa has since called on political players to tone down in their campaigns which have been characterized by violence in order to allow a smooth transition.

Professor Saasa says political stability is very fundamental for attracting investment as well as for security of investment.

He says political players should also be wary that at a time a country is having an election there is disruption of perception and the performance of its economy.

Professor Saasa notes that during this period, prospective investors tend to take a wait and see approach.

He says this essentially means an investor cannot put money in a country’s economy not until the investor is very sure about the country’s economic and political climate.
