Changala urges Zambia’s new president to fight cartel

Civil rights activist Brebner Changala says whoever becomes Zambia’s President after this month’s election has a huge task of uniting the country.

Mr. Changala has observed that under the Patriotic Front (PF) government the country has been divided due to the alleged abuse of power by those in authority.

In an interview with Qfm News by telephone, Mr. Changala says in an event that the PF Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu emerges as the new President, he does not for instance, expect him to continue with the legacy late President Michael Sata has left in relation to the respect of the rule of law and human rights in the country.

Mr. Changala says Mr. Lungu should take a different path with regards the respect of the rule of law and human rights especially that he is lawyer by profession.

He says if he emerges winner of the election and subsequently the new President, Mr. Lungu should however continue with the vision of the late Head of State of infrastructure development.

The Civil Rights activist adds that if Mr. Lungu or any other candidate is elected to the highest office the fight against Corruption should be revisited.

He says this is because under the PF government, the fight has been allegedly abused and used by especially the media to vilify individuals, divide the country, settle scores and at times bully the government to go against its people.

Mr. Changala states the fight against Corruption should be supported in such a way that it is not used to bring down individuals or companies that do not agree with certain decisions made by the governing system.
