Govt urged not to compromise on new mining tax

Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITA) says any discussion between government and the mining companies over the disputed new tax system for the mining sector should be as transparent Minersas possible.

EITA National Coordinator Mwiya Mwandawande has told QFM that government should not compromise over the new mine tax regime.

Mr Mwandawande says the position of EITA is that there is need for government to be very honest with the mining firms if they are to achieve the best out of the new tax regime.

He says government should ensure the new mine tax regime benefits both the mines and the country.

Mr.Mwandawande states that Zambia has the potential to generate enough revenue from the mining industry through appropriate tax payments by all mining companies
