Actualize Anti GBV Act – YWCA

The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) has called for the actualization of the Anti Gender Based Violence Act this year.
YWCA National Chairperson Patricia Ndhlovu says in the New Year, there is need to ensure that the various aspects provided in the Anti Gender Based Violence Act are implemented so that the perpetrators are brought to book without cases being withdrawn.
Ms. Ndhlovu notes that in the recent past, it had become common for GBV Victims to withdraw the cases a situation which does not help in reducing GBV cases.
She says if GBV perpetrators are brought to book, it will help deter would be offenders from committing the similar crimes.
Ms Ndhlovu states that it is important that the law does not allow victims to withdraw the cases of GBV once they have been reported.
Ms. Ndhlovu notes that GBV has become a national crisis and thus need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to fight it if the number of cases is to reduce.
