50% of urea fertilizer delivered to farmers

Agriculture and Livestock Minister Wylbur Simuusa says over 50 percent of Urea fertilizer procured from Saudi Arabia has been delivered to farmers countrywide.

Mr Simuusa says government is on course with the delivery of fertilizer to farmers and that there is no need for farmers to panic.

He says government is determined to ensure that all farmers receive the fertilizer by the end of this week.

Mr. Simusa explains that as at 1st January, 2015, government had delivered almost forty percent of the urea top dressing fertilizer.

He says government will keep monitoring the pace at which the transporters delivering the fertilizer to ensure that they do not delay the farmers in receiving the fertilizer.

Mr Simuusa says agriculture remains the PF government’s top priority in order to safeguard the country’s food basket and reduce poverty.
