MMD President Nevers Mumba says he will use his experience to plead with Barrick Gold the owners of Lumwana mine not to halt its operations in the country.
Dr. Mumba says he personally contributed in convincing the Canadian based mining giant to come and invest in Zambia.
Dr. Mumba explains that when he served as Zambia’s Ambassador to Canada, the country was in dare need of investors who could revamp the mining activities in north western province.
Dr. Mumba stresses that it was at this time that he worked tirelessly and engaged in serious discussions with the top management of Barrick Gold in Canada to consider the possibility of investing in Zambia’s mining sector.
The MMD leader fears that the levels of poverty will increase among the majority Zambians who have been employed at Lumwana mine should their contracts be terminated.
