Mbala Clergy man calls for enactment of law to limit formation of political parties

A Clergyman in Mbala has called for the enactment of the law that will limit forming and registration of political parties in the country.

Reverend Maybin Mulenga of the United Church of Zambia notes that some political parties being formed do not add value to the political dispensation in the country.

Rev. Mulenga said coming up with the law that will only allow for the registration of political parties with national representation will enable members of the public to appreciate the value of politics.

He observed that political parties were mushrooming almost at regional and tribal basis but without membership across the country.

The Clergyman wondered how someone can wish to become a republican president with no members across the country to vote for him or her.

Meanwhile, Rev. Mulenga has appealed to all Zambians to uphold love, respect and tolerance for each other as the country prepares to elect the new president this month.

Rev. Mulenga urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns devoid of violence so as to inspire more people to participate in the election of the leader of their choice on 20th January.

Rev. Mulenga was speaking last Sunday during a special fasting and prayer service declared by the Synod to pray for the peaceful elections and power transition in the country.
