Incoming president should strengthen Mwami Boarder – Chipata residents

Some Chipata residents have appealed to the incoming Republican President to ensure he or she strengthens Mwami Boarder Post which they say is porous.

The residents talked to by our staffer Albert Mpezeni in Chipata.

District, have complained that the porous border poses a danger to them in many ways.

Mangani Jere, a businessman says the next Republican President must consider establishing mechanisms that will see to it that the border is strengthened to curb illegal immigrants from the neighboring country of Malawi.

Mr.Jere says people freely cross into Zambia from Malawi and vice versa because of the porous border.

Another businesswoman, Agness Mwanza is of the view that the incoming president gives serious attention to issue of the porous border by ensuring border patrols are intensified on the Zambian side.

She states that Immigration Officers on the Malawian side are very alert and that it is almost impossible for someone to enter into their country illegally.

Meanwhile, James Banda, a taxi driver says the border does not need to be strengthened but that government should improve on the infrastructure at the border.

He points out that Mwami Boarder on the Malawian side has modern infrastructure compared to the Zambian side.
