Kampyongo insists UPND should consult before holding Shiwang’andu rally

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Steven Kampyongo has advised the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) to consult him and the Police before going back to Shiwang’andu District to hold a rally.

The UPND campaign team was last week attacked in Shiwang’andu by suspected PatriKampyongootic FRONT (PF) CADRES, but the party has vowed to go back and hold its aborted rally.

But Mr. Kampyongo is of the view that the UPND campaign team should consult him as area Member of Parliament and the Police in the area before they proceed with their rally in the district.

Mr. Kampyongo has told journalists in Isoka District that the UPND are free to hold their rally in the area but that they have to consult relevant stakeholders.

He says the police should be notified so that they provide necessary Security when the UPND officials go to campaign in the district.

And the Home Affairs Deputy Minister says the Zambia Police
Service is providing the required security during PF rallies contrary to reports that the PF are providing their own security.

He argues that the police are aware of every meeting the PF are holding across the country.
