Opposition UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has warned that if the nation is not careful to protect its peace and freedoms such peace and freedoms will quickly come under threat.

In a statement to Qfm News Mr. Hichilema notes that it is thus important that people in the country work towards ensuring that  peace and stability of Zambia is maintained.

Mr. Hichilema says both government and citizens must stand firm against any kind of violence.

He says no politician should be subjected to violent confrontation during the course of their campaign activities and that no Zambian should ever face persecution or intimidation for their political beliefs or opinions.

The UPND leader has suggested that those responsible for acts of violence must be held accountable adding that the country cannot continue to allow those who would destabilize the country entry into government.

He says he also thinks that any resort to violent tactics especially during an election is desperate and unacceptable.

Mr. Hichilema says it is for this reason his is of the view that a vote for his party on the 20th of January this year is a vote for moving forward and not looking back.

He says it is a vote for unity and a vote for peace.
