MMD gives rebel MPs final ultimatum

The opposition MMD has given its rebel Members of Parliament (MPs) a final ultimatum of up to 10th January this year to rethink their endorsing of another opposition leader.

MMD president Nevers Mumba has told Qfm News in a statement that he has taken note that some members of his party are daring both him and the party by making decisions meant to destabilize the party.

Dr. Mumba has referred to some of his party’s MPs and some selected party leader’s decision to publicly endorsed the candidature of UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema as some of the act that are mean to destabilize the former ruling party.

He has reminded the rebel MPs and party leaders that the MMD constitution states that one of the obligations of a member is to be loyal and committed to the ideals and programs of the party.

The MMD president states this means that  in order to accommodate the anomaly created by the illegal act of the MPs, the party would have to abrogate its constitution and opt for convenience.

He says on the basis of this development of endorsing another presidential candidate his party’s National Secretary Mwansa Mbulakulima has been directed to write to all erring MPs and National Executive Committee members who have taken this path to re-think their position.

The opposition leader has warned that those who will continue to campaign for other parties and candidates beyond the 10th of January shall be considered as having crossed the floor and appropriate action shall be taken.

He says this shall be followed by a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly demanding for their removal from Parliament.

And Dr. Mumba has disclosed that following the revocation of the ten presidential nominations on the MMD NEC, other members have been selected to take over as nominated members of his party’s National Executive Committee with immediate effect.
