Ruling PF president Edgar Lungu has been challenged to sign the constitution social contract as an assurance he will indeed enact a new constitution once elected republican president.

Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema who himself has signed the social contract with the Grand Coalition on the Demand for the People Driven Constitution, says his party has noted with interest Mr. Lungu’s stated commitment to deliver the new constitution in his New Year’s message.

In a statement released Qfm News today Mr. Hichilema says his party wants Mr. Lungu to also make clear what he will do once elected President on other important matters given the governance concerns raised under the PF government.

He has referred to the country not having new constitution by now, the huge number of Ministers and Deputy Ministers on the public pay roll, alleged routine abuse of the Public Order Act, undue interference in questions of traditional leadership and failure to repeal the NGO Act as some of the governance concerns.

The UPND leader says it these concerns he also thinks PF government’s track record can be traced.
