Rural electrification key to rural poverty reduction-REA

rea 2The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) says rural electrification is key to the attainment of economic growth and the reduction of rural poverty.

REA Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Musonda says it is for this reason that the authority will continue in 2015 electrifying rural areas in order to assure a future of growing local businesses, industrial activities and valued rural education opportunities.

Mr. Musonda says the rural electrification drive remains one of the priority requirements to achieving economic growth in the rural areas of Zambia.

He adds that through available of technologies such as solar home systems, solar mini grids, mini hydro power stations and grid extension projects, the authority has continued to electrify rural areas in Zambia.

Mr. Musonda further states that the Rural Electrification Authority is mindful of the huge potential rural growth centers have stressing that it is for the same reason that they exploit every opportunity to make sure that they stimulate socio economic growth in rural areas.
