MMD President Nevers Mumba has become the latest presidential candidate to sign the social contract with the Grand Coalition on the Demand for the People Driven Constitution bringing the number of candidates who have committed to delivering a people driven constitution if elected to five.
Grand Coalition Chairperson Leonard Chiti has disclosed to Qfm News that Dr. Mumba signed the contract today the 31st December in the morning.
Father Chiti states that the Grand coalition will now pursue the rest of the remaining presidential candidates who have not signed to do so.
He says it is hoped that by the end of this week or beginning of next week all candidates will have signed their social contracts.
He however states that the fact that the social contract is voluntary it will be within an individual’s democratic right not to sign the contract.
Father Chiti says for the Grand Coalition, this will on the other hand mean that such a candidate is a kind of politician who does not mean what they say.
He has wondered why any well meaning presidential candidate would refuse to append a signature on document such as the social contract which is only a symbolic gesture of committing oneself to enacting the new constitution once elected republican President.
