Patriotic Front Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba has endorsed the candidature of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema in the 20th January presidential election.

Mr Mwamba has told a media briefing in Kasama today that he will however remain a committed member of the Patriotic Front and will abide by the ideals and aspirations of the Patriotic Front.

He says he believes Mr Hichilema will do the correct things for the nation and is a pragmatic, focused and determined leader who can take the country to greater heights and in line with the aspirations of the Zambian people.

Mr Mwamba has since called on all Zambians to rally behind the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

He says it was his belief that the recent reconciliation in the PF was genuine and done in good faith and in the interest of the party, but that this has turned out to be a sham as it has not been allowed to permeate to the grassroot.

Mr Mwamba states that instead, the reconciliation was a scheme to benefit a few people that have surrounded PF President Edgar Lungu.

He says to date, all those in the party structures at all levels who supported any other candidate other than Mr Lungu, including himself as area Member of Parliament for Kasama Central, have been sidelined and relegated to the terraces.

He adds that the recent happenings in the Patriotic Front are unfortunate and make sad reading.

Mr Mwamba states that the happenings in the ruling party have uprooted all the gains the party has made in the last three years it has been in Government.

He further states that the situation has been so sad that it has torn the very fabric of party unity.

But Patriotic Front Secretary General Davis Chama has challenged Mr. Mwamba to resign immediately from the PF or withdraw his case in court so that his seat can be declared vacant.

Mr Chama says any action by Mr. Mwamba will reflect a decision of an individual and that such a decision has no bearing or consequence on the support the Patriotic Front enjoys in Kasama and in Northern Province.

Mr Chama says last week’s visit to Kasama visit by PF President Edgar Lungu demonstrates the support and popularity the party is enjoying.
