Mumba takes MMD New Hope to NW province

Nevers Mumba promises MatokaThe Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) continued its New Hope election campaign in North-Western Province after touring Kabompo and Chavuma on Saturday, having visited Mwinilunga and Zambezi on Friday.

Presidential candidate Dr Nevers Mumba used the occasion to introduce “Town Hall” meetings for the first time in Zambia.

The Town Hall meetings allowed Dr Mumba to interact closely with people in an informal setting and spend more time listening to them.

Dr Mumba pioneered the Town Hall meetings because he feels that at rallies, it is mostly mob-psychology at play where politicians engage in a one-way communication, talking down to the people while the people’s specific needs and sufferings are not heard or understood.

In Kabompo and Chavuma where Dr Mumba continued his core message of bringing New Hope to Zambia, indoor Town Hall meetings were held where he asked the electorate to tell him what kind of President they want to rule Zambia and the sort of things they expect of the incoming president.

One elderly man in the Kabompo Town Hall meeting told Dr. Mumba that he has suffered a lot in recent years due to the poor agricultural policies of the Patriotic Front government due to late supply of agricultural inputs, the high cost of fertilizer which before was very affordable, and the extremely late payments by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

He implored Dr. Mumba once elected to bring back the way the MMD government was running agriculture, by supplying inputs and making payments on time.

The MMD campaign team in North-Western Province is headed by Mr David Kapwepwe and the National Campaign Secretary is Mr Emmanuel Chihili, the former Mayor of Solwezi.

The MMD New Hope campaign team flew from Chavuma early this morning to Mongu, Western Province where the team will immediately pay an early morning courtesy call on the Litunga before attending a church service at the Pentecostal Assemblies of God church, followed by radio talk shows on both Radio Lyambai and Radio Liseli.

Provincial Campaign Manager Mr. Kamwengo Kamuti, who is also MMD NEC Chairman of Transport and Communications, has reported that the province has been well prepared for the arrival of Dr Mumba.
