MISA challenges presidential hopefuls over Access to Information Bill

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter has challenged all 2015 Presidential candidates to state their position on laws that incriminate speech.

MISA Zambia wants candidates vying for the country’s presidency to tell the nation their position on the Access to Information Bill.

Chairperson Hellen Mwale has told Qfm News that her institute wants all presidential candidates to state when this Bill will be enacted into law.

Ms. Mwale says MISA’s challenge to the presidential hopeful follows its concern that none of the candidates participating in the forthcoming presidential election is focusing on real issues that affect the media.

She notes all that her institute has observed from these politicians is their condemning of the media for allegedly not airing their campaign messages.

The MISA Zambia chairperson says people in the country should be told what all those vying for the country’s highest office have in store for the Zambian media and its independence.
