Mumba promises Peter Matoka University for NW province

MMD 2015 Presidential candidate Nevers Mumba has promised the people of North-Western Province that once his party is voted in power in 2015 it will continue its development programme for the Province that has been allegedly disrupted by the PF government.

Dr. Mumba says the MMD shall construct an ultra-modern university in North-Western Province to be named after the late statesman Dr. Peter Matoka.

The MMD campaign media team has disclosed to Qfm News this is part of Dr. Mumba’s message on his current campaign trail in North-Western Province where Mwinilunga residents are said to have braved the rains to listen to him and his campaign team yesterday Friday the 26th of December, 2014.

And immediately upon arrival, Dr. Mumba’s team is said to have called on Chief Kanongesha at his palace and who warmly welcomed the team and indicate how the people of North-Western Province have never forgotten how the MMD Government under Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, transformed North-Western Province into the new Copperbelt by finding serious investors for the Copper Mines like Lumwana and Kansanshi mine.

Chief Kanongesha also told Dr. Mumba that he remembers his visits to North-Western province while he was Vice-President of Zambia.

Meanwhile speaking at the rally later, Dr Mumba told the people of North Western province that while he was Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada, he spearheaded the discussions with Barrick Gold of Canada and convinced them to invest US $8 Billion to create the now world-famous Lumwana mine, which became the single biggest capital investment in Africa in over ten years.

He says he thinks that because of the disastrous policies of the PF Government after just three years, Lumwana mine is now at risk of closure, which may plunge workers into unemployment and poverty. Lumwana mine employs 4,000 permanent employees and approximately 8,000 contract workers and has modernized the entire North-Western province.

Dr. Mumba has however assured the people of North-Western province that as soon as he is elected into power, he will immediately enter into negotiations with the mine owners to arrive at a ‘win-win’ outcome which will halt the closure of the mine and save jobs while ensuring that the Government of Zambia benefits from this massive investment.
He says he is armed with personal knowledge of how the Barrick Gold Lumwana contract was negotiated and is therefore well placed to lead these negotiations.

The MMD 2015 presidential candidate has also observed that ever since the PF came into power, they have allegedly not done anything meaningful to add value to the mining sector but that they have only been busy implementing alleged endless confusing and retrogressive policies which have destroyed the country’s once thriving economy.

After this rally MMD campaign team later flew to the second rally of the day in Zambezi where Dr. Mumba’s team also met a huge crowd that had braved the weather to hear him speak.

There he is said to have promised the young people of North-Western province that under his rule, education will be paramount because it is the great equalizer and is the tool that the New Hope MMD will use to create a pool of technocrats to realize his vision of a transformed, modern Zambia which will be the envy for the whole of Africa.
