UTH records 22 Christmas babies

Health Minister Dr. Joseph Kasonde donates a Christmas gift to a mother at UTH.

The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has recorded 22 Christmas babies born between 00:50 to 8; 00 hours on 25th December, 2014.

Speaking when health Minister Joseph Kasonde donated items to babies born on Christmas day, UTH public relations officer Mwenya Mulenga says of the 22, nine are girls and 13 are boys of which two are sets of twins.

Mr. Mulenga notes that all the babies are stable and are with their mothers.

And Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says government is concerned about maternal health which is why it is working on ensuring that maternal services are extended to clinics in some districts.

Dr. Kasonde has encouraged UTH to continue the good work by providing quality health care stressing that the country is on the road to reducing maternal mortality and will endeavor to continue reducing them.

Meanwhile Mr. Mulenga has also disclosed that the hospital received 22 road traffic accident cases of which 16 were seen and discharged while 6 are currently admitted but are out of danger.

He also adds that they also received 11 assault cases of which 5 were seen and discharged while 6 are still admitted.
