SACCORD counsels MMD

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says there is need for the opposition MMD to quickly resolves its wrangles and in order to remain relevant to the country’s political dispensation.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says it is a disservice to democracy for political parties to go into oblivion upon being voted out of power.

Mr Cheembe says Zambia’s young democracy cannot afford to have such kind of situation as it is unconstructive and a disservice to the maturing democracy.

He states that Zambia should emulate other developed countries that have experienced political parties both in government and in opposition.

Mr Cheembe says this therefore calls for political parties like the opposition MMD to quickly resolve its wrangles.

The SACCORD Executive Director says it’s incumbent upon the top leadership of the former ruling party to bury their differences and egos and be able to discuss an amicable way forward.

He has told QFM news that it is of great interest to the nation that the political party that spearheaded the reintroduction of multiparty politics in Zambia remains strong and relevant to general politics of the country.
