MMD in Lusaka disappointed by expulsion of Lungu & Nyangu

The MMD in Lusaka province is disappointed with party president Nevers Mumba’s decision to expel party National Secretary Muhabi Lungu and his deputy Chembe Nyangu.

MMD Lusaka province Chairperson Watson Mtonga says his understanding of the party constitution is that the party president does not have powers to expel the party National Secretary.

He says the only provision in the MMD constitution for the dismissal of the party National Secretary is through a convention.

Mr. Mtonga has also wondered what Dr. Mumba means by expelling Mr. Lungu and Mr. Nyangu when he has already indicated there will be no revenge or vindictiveness in the party following the ruling of the Supreme Court which restored him to the MMD presidency.

In a walk-in interview with Qfm News, Mr. Mtonga has also disclosed that the party in Lusaka province is still resolved to rally behind former president Rupiah Banda as the MMD 2015 presidential candidate regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of Dr Mumba.

Mr. Mtonga says as far as the MMD in the province is concerned, Dr. Mumba will remain MMD president but that the party also allows members to retain their democratic right to choose a candidate of their own to participate in a particular election.

He says they have resolved to rally behind Mr. Banda and are ready to be expelled by Dr. Mumba if he is not happy with their position.
