The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) says it will pass a law to prohibit civil servants from engaging in business with government once it forms government in 2015.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says any civil servants including senior government officials who want to own businesses will have to conduct such businesses outside government limits.

He says this is in order to promote transparency and accountability in all government business.

Mr Mwanza says the current situation where government officials who are responsible for law reforms involve themselves in businesses within government causes a conflict of interest.

He says it is this conflict of interest that has slowed down reforms in the tax regime especially in the mining sector owing to the fact that some government officials are also suppliers to the mines.

Mr. Mwanza states once the FDD forms government next year, it will change this situation besides ensuring that the Chambers of Mines begins to serve the interests of Zambians as opposed to serving the interests of foreigners.
