The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says it is no longer good enough for politicians to promise the enactment of the new constitution without following such a pronouncement with action.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says politicians making the promise of enacting the new constitution ahead of the 2015 presidential election should do so with the intentions of fulfilling such a promise.

Mr. Cheembe has told Qfm News that SACCORD has particularly taken note of Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu’s desire to fulfill the constitution promise, but that his organization hopes that Mr. Lungu’s promise will not end up being another unfulfilled political promise.

He says SACCORD expects that Mr. Lungu, if elected republican President will remain committed to his word by ensuring that the country’s new constitution is enacted before the 2016 general election.

Mr. Cheembe states that politicians who are making promises on the enactment of the new constitution should be wary that the people of Zambia are listening to their promises.
