Two Kabwe cops sent to jail for corruption

The Kabwe Magistrate Court has sentenced two Police Officers of Kabwe to 24 Months Imprisonment with Hard Labour for corrupt activities involving K 800. 00

Kabwe Principle Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi found Changano Changano and Roy Sitenge each guilty of one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer, contrary to Section 19(1) as read with Section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.Police Hat

Details of the offence are that Changano and Sitenge, between 1st September and 30th September 2012, in Kabwe, being Public Officers
namely, Police Officers, corruptly solicited for K 800.00 and actually received K 500. 00 cash gratification from a named teacher as an inducement or reward for the duo to discontinue investigations against him for purchasing a purportedly stolen computer, a matter concerning The Zambia Police, a public body.

Changano, a local Police constable, was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Commission on 18th September 2012 while receiving the said bribe, after a tip off led the officers to the scene. Upon realizing that he had been discovered, Changano attempted to swallow the money but did not succeed.

The sentence is with effect from Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

This is according to a statement issued by Anti Corruption Commission Corporate Affairs officer Jonathan Siame.
