HH determined to move Zambia forward

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says hearing the cries of the people struggling to cope with high cost of living and limited employment opportunities during their recent visits and rallies in Muchinga, Northern and Luapula provinces has only increased their determination to move Zambia forward.

Mr Hichilema says during the meetings, market visits and rallies in the three provinces over the last week, his team has seen the potential that exists in every corner of these provinces.

He says they will confront the issue of unemployment, particularly among the youth who HHneed to be empowered through good quality education, relevant training and access to affordable credit.

Mr Hichilema adds that the pledge to reverse the recent raise in the retirement age from 55 to 65 is just one measure that can be taken to relieve pressure on the job market, coupled with support for local businesses.

He has also re-stated his commitment to continue with roads and construction projects that are necessary for development, whilst working to ensure that all future contracts for infrastructure developments are awarded and overseen in a fair and transparent manner that delivers best value for money for Zambians.

Mr Hichilema says his team will explain how government waste can be cut so that farmers, students, teachers, and officials can be paid the money they are owed by government.

He points out that stopping the trend of by-election after by-election, slimming down bloated government which has grown to 73 ministers and deputy ministers, and making a strong commitment to appointing people based on merit and professionalism, and not because of connections or relationships, will free up much-needed revenue.
