Adherence to standards not our responsibility- ZABS

ZABSThe Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) says it is not responsible for ensuring the standards that it helps to formulate are adhered to.

ZABS senior Laboratory Analyst Andrew Chipongo says much as his institution ensures that standards that are directly under its scope of work are adhered to it is however up other institutions that are mandated by the law to implement the standards it helps formulate.

Mr. Chipongo states that if there are any institutions that are having trouble in ensuring that particularly standards are adhered to they should engage ZABS to see how best implementation can be done.

He says ZABS is happy with all the standards that it has helped formulate as they are a product of consultation from stakeholders that include members of the public.

The ZABS senior Laboratory Analyst was speaking this morning at a 2 days media workshop that has been held in Chilanga.

The institutions that ZABS has helped to formulate standards include among others the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).
