ZCID reveal root cause of MMD wrangles

The Zambia Center for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has observed that the wrangles in the opposition MMD ahead of the 2015 presidential election emanate from a precedent set by late founding party President Frederick Chiluba.

Executive Director Horrance Chilando has recalled that soon after Dr. Chiluba left office, he held on to the party Presidency before he was forced to relinquish the position to President Levy Mwanawasa.

Mr. Chilando says the former ruling party should have learnt lessons from this and worked on its statutes in order that such a situation does not arise in future.

Mr. Chilando says his organization finds it saddening that things have turned this way in the former ruling party where the party president Dr. Nevers Mumba has been prevented from being the party’s candidate for the 2015 presidential election to pave way for former president Rupiah Banda.

He says ZCID does not want to see the MMD going into oblivion as this will work against democracy.
