T-Pain Says He Doesn’t Like Many Of His Hits And Doesn’t Care About Making People Dance

T - PainT-Pain, who’s had many hits throughout his career, recently told Larry King that he’s done with trying to make chart-toppers.

“Musically, I stopped trying to make hits,” T-Pain said. “I’m done with trying to make hits and trying to please everybody, except for myself.”

So, T-Pain says that he’s crafting his upcoming album Stoicville with a different perspective.

Stoicville is more truthful to me,” he explained. “It’s things that’s in my heart instead of trying to make hits… It’s not about if people get it or not. It’s about if I’m singing from my heart and making lyrics that resonate with me and not just making people dance in the club all the time.”

But it goes beyond this. T-Pain, who recently said Kanye West uses Auto-Tune incorrectly, even revealed that he doesn’t like many of his hits and that he only made some of them because he was promised vehicles in exchange for chart-toppers.

Now, all of this is a major change for T-Pain, who in 2010 said he wouldn’t release a new album until record sales went back up. But we have started to see the new T-Pain this year.

In October, he wowed us with Auto-Tune-less renditions of his hits. And soon after that, he dropped the surprisingly candid “Stoicville” track.

T-Pain says all of these changes have helped him realize something very important. “I’m much happier,” he revealed to King. “I’ve never been this happy in the music industry in my life.”

Well, Auto-Tune or not, a happy T-Pain is all we could really ask for.
