Saunders defends political parties over funding

Political Activist Dante Saunders says it is out of proportion to challenge political parties to state the source of their funds used in campaigns.

Mr. Saunders has told Qfm News in an interview that Civil Society Organizations such as Zambian Voice that have made this challenge ought to be careful on how they articulate certain issues as they risk being rendered irrelevant.

Mr. Saunders says there is no provision in the current constitution that challenges any political party whether in opposition or in government to expose their funding when it come to campaigns.

He says he personally thus finds it strange for Zambian Voice to make such a challenge to political parties when it is baseless to do so.

The political activist has also recalled that in 1991 when late former President Fredrick Chiluba was championing for multi party democracy with the view of unseating the then UNIP government, it had to take outside funding to successfully change government.
