By 2016 all heavy cargo will start being transported by railway – Mukanga

Transport Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says government wants to ensure that by 2016, all heavy cargo will be transported by railway and not by road.

Mr. Mukanga says heavy cargo has been contributing to the damaging of the roads across the country.

Mr. Mukanga says it is for this reason that his ministry wants to ensure that all heavy cargo should be transported by railway in a bid to safeguard the roads.

He says government has in the recent years given attention to the rehabilitate the railway line because they want to ensure that they are able to move heavy cargo by the year 2016.

He says government remains committed to ensuring that they come up with initiatives that will protect the country’s infrastructure.
