Amend laws that do not favor journalists – MISA asks MPs

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter has appealed to Members of Parliament (MPs) to amend laws that do not favor journalists in the country.

Speaking during a workshop for MPs and News Editors in Lusaka today, MISA Zambia Chapter Chairperson Helen Mwale also observed the need for MPs to fully understand how the media operates.

Ms Mwale says MISA Zambia Chapter has been on the other hand been receiving complaints that journalists are biased in the way they report on certain issues.

Ms Mwale says some MPs have further complained that some journalists are allegedly paid that is why they write compromising stories.

She says the workshop is thus aimed at bringing together the MPs and News editors with the view of seeing how the two can best work together for the good of the nation.

The MISA Zambia chapter chairperson has since urged the participants not to be shy but be open and bring out burning issues that they feel need to be addressed by the other party.
