Chief Justice cautions new lawyers against illegal conducts

CJThirteen out of the two hundred and sixty seven advocates that sat for the Legal Practitioners Qualifying Exam at the Zambia Institute for Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) have been admitted to bar.

All the thirteen advocates passed their Legal Practitioners Qualifying Exam (LPQE) at first attempt.

Speaking shortly after she admitted the new advocates to the bar during a swearing ceremony at the Supreme Court in Lusaka today, Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda cautioned the new Lawyers against engaging in illegal, fraudulent and dishonest conduct.

Justice Chibesakunda has implored the new lawyers to by all means pursue nothing less than excellence in their professional conduct.

She has also advised them not to give legal advice to their clients when not sure until they have done ample legal research and consultation.

The Acting Chief Justice has further counseled the 13 advocates not to perceive their profession as a gold mine.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zambia Institute for Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) Director Enoch Mulembe stated that the 13 advocates bring the number of lawyers that have been admitted to bar in the last 22 months to 150.

Mr. Mulembe has reminded the new advocates to remember the lesson of upholding good professional conduct and integrity.

And Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) vice president Linda Kasonde has implored the new lawyers to spare some of their time for pro-bono work to help the less fortunate.

Ms. Kasonde has also encouraged the advocates to keep it in mind that as they practice their profession, perseverance is what pays.
