Kalusha: Zambia game for Group B

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya says Zambia will hold their own in Group B at 2015 AFCON following draws made on Wednesday in Malabo.

Zambia will face northern neighbours DR Congo, long-time nemesis Tunisia and renew rivalries with their Group F qualifier opponents Cape Verde in the group stage at the 2015 Africa Cup tournament that kicks off on January 17 and ends on February 8 in Equatorial Guinea.

Sadly for Zambia they will not be based at their lucky home ground in Bata where they were unbeaten in 2012 en route to a triumphant conclusion in Gabon.

Instead, Zambia will be out in remote Ebebiyin near the border convergence with Gabon and Cameroon.

“I knew that the draw would be tough. We have to prepare really hard . Chipolopolo will be ready no doubt,” Kalusha said in a statement.

“I wish the best of luck to all teams.”

Despite numerous meetings over the years, Zambia will face DR Congo at the Africa Cup for the first time since they met in the 1974 final replay in Cairo that the latter won.

Tunisia and Zambia’s last meeting was at the 2010 tournament in Angola where they played out to a 1-1 Group D draw.

However, Zambia have a quick turn-around meeting against Cape Verde after losing 2-1 in their first Group F qualifying meeting on September 9 away in Praia before avenging that defeat on November 19 with a 1-0 home win in Ndola.
