Govt to conduct survey on disability

KabanshiGovernment has disclosed that it will soon conduct a national survey on disability to ascertain the prevalence and extent of disability in the country.

Speaking when she officiated at the commemorate of the international day   for persons with disabilities in Lusaka today, community development mother and child health Minister Emerine Kabanshi says government attaches great importance to the welfare and inclusive development issues of persons with disabilities.

Ms Kabanshi says government has also put in place a new Act which paved way for the   domestication of the convention of the rights of persons with disabilities.

She adds that a national policy on disability with an implementation plan to operationalise the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Ms Kabanshi stresses that it is in this regard that she has appealed to engineers and scientists to promote the design of adaptive technologies for persons with disabilities in Zambia.
