Senior Chief Nzamane of the Ngoni speaking people in Chipata has endorsed UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for the January 20th presidential by-election.
Speaking when the UPND leader paid a courtesy call on him this morning, Chief Nzamane notes that Mr Hichilema has persevered and that time for him to lead the country has come.
The traditional leader states that the confusion in the ruling Patriotic Front caused by the failure to adhere to the party constitution has cast doubt on the PF leadership.
Chief Nzamane later held a closed door meeting with the UPND leader.
And Mr. Hichilema says it would be a tragedy for country if the Patriotic Front is allowed to return to power after the 20th January presidential election.
Speaking when he addressed the Chipata Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr Hichilema says PF government has shown massive appetite for borrowing.
He points out that the PF has accumulated $7 billion in debt during the three years they have been in power when previous governments accumulated the same amount in 34 years.
Mr. Hichilema adds that the tragedy has also been that the PF has accumulated a huge domestic debt thereby denying local businesses access to finance.
