Split looms in PF,as another general conference is underway

A split is looming in the ruling Patriotic Front with the party expected to have two presidents by the end of the day.

This is follows the declaration of Edgar Lungu yesterday as PF President, while another general conference is underway in Kabwe were another president is expected to be elected.

And Edgar Lungu has started his reign by ringing changes to the office of PF Secretary General were he has appointed Davis Chama as the party’s news Chief Executive Officer.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Lungu says he has relieved Bridget Atanga as Secretary General together with her deputy Anthony Kasolo.

Mr Lungu says he has also suspended PF Chairperson for Elections Sylvia Masebo for gross indiscipline and that he will be referring her case to the Central Committee for determination.

He says the three party officials will find their letters ready the moment they return from Kabwe.

Mr Lungu further disclosed that his team has obtained an injunction restraining another General Conference from being held today.

And Mr Lungu says he has surrendered enough to acting President Dr Scott and will surrender no more.

He says his surrender of the instruments of power to Dr Scott and his earlier decision to relinquish his earlier position of Secretary General should not be perceived as weakness.

Meanwhile another PF General Conference is underway at Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe which has been opened by Acting President Guy Scott.

Among the candidates in attendance include Kabwata MP Given Lubinda, Commerce Minister Bob Sichinga, Matero MP Miles Sampa,Nchanga MP Wilbur Simuusa, Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba, Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili and Diplomat Seleman Banda.

And addressing the gathered delegates PF Chairperson for Election Sylvia Masebo said she was proud to be part of the process that allows eligible members of the general conference to campaign and vote for their preferred candidates without intimidation.
