HH pledges to minimise new HIV infection

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says his government will work hard to ensure that they minimize new HIV infections in the country using different strategies.

In his message to mark World AIDS Day which falls today 1st December, Mr Hichilema notes that in the past three years there has been a spike in new infections amidst a questionable supply of ARVs.

Mr Hichilema says this is due to hardships people are facing while some have relHH1apsed due to lack of a steady supply of ARVs because of Government mismanagement of the procurement process.

He states that the past three years should have moved the country from the current 14% prevalence rate downwards, but that this has not happened.

Mr Hichilema says the UPND government will ensure that no one person who is supposed to be under treatment has recourse to take the state to task.

He has pledged to ensure that care services are commensurate with the minimum standards that won’t compromise their human dignity.

The UPND leader adds that as Zambia joins the rest of the world in commemorating world AIDS Day, there is need not to forget that everyone is affected by HIV and AIDS in one way or another.
