Green party promises change in electoral system once elected

Green Party President Peter Sinkamba says his party finds it hard to understand why the country’s electoral system is so unfair to the young people when it comes to their participation in governance and leadership.

Mr. Sinkamba has observed that the electoral system considers all citizens under the age of 18 as incapable of making rational choices of leaders of their choice.

He says this is why when elected into government, the Green Party, under his leadership will reverse this injustice by ensuring that government develops and implement policies that strongly support space and voice for young people.

Mr. Sinkamba notes that his Green Government will, within one year of election into office, review all policies, laws and strategies that inhibit the election of youths, who are bonafide citizens, to political office or voting on account of age.

He states that the review will cover eligibility of youths to contest elections as Councilors, Members of Parliament, Vice President or President.
