YALI questions PF’s capacity to conduct national elections

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is concerned with the reports coming from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) General conference that there are some alleged attempts of rigging the party’s elections.

YALI governance advisor Isaac Mwanza  says his organization has information that such attempts are being schemed through an alleged parallel accreditation set up.

Mr. Mwanza has told Qfm News by telephone that such information is what his organization is worried about.

He has wondered how the ruling PF will manage the 2015 presidential election and other future election if it is now showing signs that it has failed to manage  its internal election.

The YALI governance advisor has since called upon acting President Guy Scott to give direction to his party election that is scheduled to take place in Kabwe.

He says this is because such alleged reports coming from Mulungushi Rock of Authority which is the venue for the General Conference are not inspiring confidence in the capacity of the ruling PF to conduct free and fair national elections.

Mr. Mwanza states it is thus incumbent upon Dr. Scott to restore the confidence of the Zambian people by ensuring his party conducts a free, fair and transparent election in a peaceful manner.

He has also called upon the delegates at the General Conference to remain peace and resolute to solve the leadership wrangles of their party.

Mr. Mwanza has further called on opposition leaders that are attending the PF General Conference to desist from acts that would fuel more discontent in the ruling PF.

He says one such act his organization is against is the de-campaigning of former First lady Christine Kaseba Sata on the basis that she is a widow of the late President Michael Sata and therefore should be mourning as opposed to contesting the PF presidency.
