Lungu talks GBV

Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) president Lucy Lungu has observed that there is too much impunity in the handling of Gender Based Violence cases.

Ms. Lungu says this is why GBV cases have continued to rise despite the efforts being put in place to fight the vice.

She says it is unfortunate that many violent men go unpunished for the crimes committed against women, which is why they keep recommitting the crime.

Ms. Lungu says due to impunity, even other men are tempted to use violence against women because they know they will go unpunished, while some women chose not to report the GBV cases.

She has urged all the victims of GBV to report the cases so that the culprits are brought to book and given the necessary punishment.

Ms Lungu further states that the withdrawal of GBV cases should also not be allowed if the cases of GBV in the country are to reduce.

Zambia has joined the rest of the world in commemorating 16 days activism against Gender Based Violence.
