MPs grill Minister Katema over ZNBC interference

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Joseph Katema had difficulties in clearly stating what action will be taken against Information Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo for allegedly interfering in the ZNBC newsroom operations.

Dr Katema who was giving a ministerial statement to Parliament on the incident at ZNBC were some named senior PF and government officials stormed the newsroom and harassed staff including Director of News and Current Affairs Kenneth Maduma, struggled to specify the action to taken against Permanent Secretary after pressing questions from opposition Members of Parliament.

Dr Katema told Parliament that government regrets the actions of the PF and government officials with regards incident that happened at ZNBC.

He says government collectively does not condone the action such as that exhibited by the named officials.

Dr Katema says it is the PF Government’s policy to defend and promote the freedom of the press as expounded in the PF manifesto and as well as in the republican constitution.
