MISA notes need for a transparent electoral system

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambian chapter has noted the need for the country to have a transparent electoral system.

Speaking during the official opening of a workshop for political parties on freedom of expression in Lusaka today, MISA Zambia board Chairperson Hellen Mwale says lack of a transparent electoral system has remained a challenge for the country.

Ms Mwale says it is in this regard that a transparent electoral system is required so that issues such as voter verification and registration processes are smoothly dealt with by relevant stakeholders.

And speaking at the same function, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Resident Director Helmut Elischer says the holding of an election which is a necessity of democracy should never turn into a divisive process.

Mr. Elischer adds that leaders must always remain sensitive and avoid falling into conflicting situations as a result of seeking to promote national interest.
