Ministry has right to give policy direction – Kasolo

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says the statement by ZNBC board Chairman John Mulwila suggesting that he has been interfering and directing the newsroom staff not to air certain stories is divisive.

Mr Kasolo has told journalists during a media briefing this afternoon that the ministry is only helping to preserve and keep its integrity by ensuring that it follows the law that regulates the public broadcaster.

Mr. Kasolo stresses that it is in this regard that Mr. Mulwila’s allegations cannot go unchallenged because the ministry has the right to give policy direction.

He explains that it is also important for the ZNBC board to realize that political games have the potential to put the public workers at risk because of the manner certain stories are reported.

Mr. Kasolo states that he is ready to do a professional job and obey the president at all times.

He has since challenged ZNBC to act responsibly and consult with his office despite the political pressure.
